First of all, Happy New Year! I hope that 2017 is full of health, peace, and prosperity for everyone.
One of my New Year's resolutions is to be more educated about my own health and offer education to those who want to know more about their conditions and why they are on certain medications and supplements. This is why I am starting this blog. It is my hope that it will prove to be educational, and leave you, the reader, wanting to know more.
I wish that more doctors would be willing to look outside of the box of conventional treatments and look more into more natural and individualized treatments. It amazes me that patients are still being clumped into categories and being treated the same rather than looking at the individual and prescribing according to that specific patient's needs. No other area deserves this individualized approach more than hormone replacement.
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is the process of restoring and maintaining hormone balance with hormones that are biologically identical to those hormones that are produced by the human body. Because they are structurally similar to the hormones we naturally produce, they are able to appropriately bind to their receptors to illicit a response without unwanted side effects which are often seen with synthetic hormones.
Because bio-identical hormones are derived from plant substances in soybeans and yams, a manufacturer is unable to obtain a patent on these substances. With this being said, a patient would not be able to go to their retail pharmacy to obtain BHRT. A compounding pharmacy, however, would be able to prepare these BHRT products. A compounding pharmacy is the oldest type of pharmacy in the world. A compounding pharmacy actually takes individual ingredients, in this case bio-identical hormones, and mixes them in the exact dosages as requested by a patient's physician.
Because I never want to put you into information overload, I would like to keep these blogs short and sweet. Each week I will continue to expound upon topics, such as BHRT. If you would like to read more on a specific subject, please send your requests to firstname.lastname@example.org, and I would be more than happy to answer your questions and inquiries.
In the meantime, if you would like more information on BHRT, be sure to check out our website page devoted to this topic. http://www.custommeds.com/services/bhrt
